ECDYSIS

There comes a moment when a former structure can no longer contain a person.

It remains recognizable, familiar — yet no longer aligned with the inner scale. In transition, protection dissolves: old frameworks lose stability while new ones have not yet taken shape. Psychology describes this as an identity crisis, yet crisis is only the visible surface of a deeper transformation.

Within this state of “in-between,” several paths unfold: to dissolve into the new environment by erasing the past; to retreat into memory and resist change; or to endure the tension and, through it, construct a more complex and resilient form of self. This choice requires inner strength — not to resist change, but not to disappear within it.

The twentieth and twenty-first centuries have made transition a collective condition. Migration is no longer exceptional; it is part of a global movement in which borders run not only across maps, but through consciousness. Each private reconstruction subtly reshapes the wider world.

Ecdysis marks the phase in which a former shell falls away — not as loss, but as growth.

Vulnerability becomes the condition of maturity.

Within this exposed interval, a new form begins to emerge — of the individual, and of the time they inhabit.
