TAIJITU
The light on the nude female figure symbolizes the harmony of Yin and Yang, represented by the Taijitu symbol.
Taijitu is a symbol associated with the philosophical and spiritual tradition of Daoism (also spelled Taoism). The term means "diagram of the supreme ultimate" and represents the dynamic balance between Yin and Yang—two complementary forces that exist in all aspects of nature and the universe.
The Taijitu symbol consists of two swirling, teardrop-shaped halves—one black and one white—forming a perfect circle. Each half contains a small dot of the opposite color, signifying that each force carries within it the seed of the other. These opposing yet interconnected elements illustrate the fundamental principle that all things are in constant transformation and equilibrium.
The black half of the symbol represents Yin, which is associated with femininity, the earth, water, the moon, night, passivity, coolness, softness, and receptivity. The white half represents Yang, symbolizing masculinity, the sky, fire, the sun, day, activity, warmth, hardness, and assertiveness. Neither force is superior to the other; instead, they exist in a continuous, cyclical relationship, maintaining the balance of existence.
The idea conveyed by the Taijitu symbol is that duality is intrinsic to nature. Concepts such as light and darkness, hot and cold, expansion and contraction, stillness and movement, good and bad, male and female, are not absolute opposites but rather complementary forces that depend on each other to exist. This interdependence reflects the natural rhythm of the universe.
The swirling motion suggested by the Taijitu symbol represents the continuous transformation of all things—the eternal cycle of life, where day turns into night, night gives way to a new day, birth leads to death, and death gives rise to rebirth. It is a reminder that change is the fundamental nature of reality, and true harmony lies in embracing this flow.
